Made from salvaged to-go coffee cups and virgin fiber, Extract is a unique solution to a type of consumer waste that is quite difficult to recycle. Ninety percent of each cup is converted back into paper fiber, and the other 10% (the plastic lining) is sent to be recycled. Every sheet of 380 gsm Extract contains at least 5 upcycled coffee cups.

Paper doesn’t have to come from trees alone. Thanks to a few clever companies, these innovative stocks relieve pressure from forest resources, some simultaneously making use of our waste.

Rockstock is a tree-free, mineral-based paper manufactured from quarry waste and industry offcuts typically destined for the landfill. The waste is ground into calcium carbonate powder and bound together with HDPE resin in a process which requires no water. The paper is freezer-safe, FDA compliant, and greaseproof. It’s also water resistant, which could make it a nice substitute for synthetic papers (think: restaurant menus).
